Whangateau Folk special event: Penni Feather and WilkieMac

Penni Feather & WilkieMac

One show, two acts!

The WilkieMac duo and singer/songwriter Penni Feather perform separately and together in an evening that spans Celtic and contemporary folk, blues, originals – and a few surprises.

WilkieMac use a range of instruments and vocals to take you on a journey through originals, covers, humour, and songs reflecting their celtic roots. From being the featured concert guest at Te Rangi Festival in Hawkes Bay, through to opening for Australian band Ukulele Death Squad for one of their pre-WOMAD tour gigs, it’s been an exciting and diverse year for the duo so far.

Penni Feather is known for her soulful interpretation of songs – and irreverent stage presence. Although she’s had a few years away from the NZ folk scene, she has previously guested at several NZ folk festivals. Recently she had a one-woman cabaret show in the Hamilton Arts Festival and performed at the Raglan Blues Festival. Grounded in folk and blues, her originals lean towards alt.country.

Earlier this year the two Raglan acts collaborated for a concert in the 2025 Hamilton Arts Festival. They so enjoyed weaving instruments and harmonies on each others’ songs, they’ve teamed up again for some northern gigs – and a first-time trip to the Whangateau Hall.
